JM 4779 - 1938 Leyland Cub FK6 PE (Pump Escape)

Supplied new in 1938 to Windermere Rural District Council Fire Brigade in the Lake District of what is now the county of Cumbria.

It served with the National Fire Service in Liverpool Docks during the blitz of World War 2, and after the war was transferred into the newly created Westmoreland County Fire Service.

It is fitted with a transverse open body, and a 4.2 litre, 6 cylinder petrol engine, and a Gwynne 500 gpm (gallon per minute) pump at the rear. At some stage in its service, it was fitted with a cab roof. It was sold out of service in 1964, and some years later was found in a poor condition, and completely restored by its owner, Norman Oak of Launceston, Cornwall.

In 2003, Norman sent it on permanent loan back to Windermere, where it is cared for by serving and retired fire station personnel.
